Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support and Safe Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (QCF)
The QNUK Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support and Safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator (QCF) provides learners with the knowledge, skills and understanding to enable them to use an automated external defibrillator and perform CPR. This may be in addition to their role as a workplace first aider.
All successful students will be issued with an QNUK Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support and Safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator (QCF) certificate, which is valid for a period of 3 years.
This qualification covers:
- Be able to manage an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally
- Be able to manage an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally
- Know how to safely use an automated external defibrillator
- Be able to safely use an automated external defibrillator
This qualification comprises of one mandatory unit. The learning outcomes and assessment criteria are outlined in this document.
This qualification should be delivered over a minimum of four hours over 1-day..
Learners will be assessed using verbal questions and a practical observation for the practical elements of the course. The practical elements of the course will be recorded by the tutor on the observation sheets provided by QN.
Simulation will be used for assessments.
Responses to verbal questions will be recorded on the verbal question form.
Assessment materials wil be downloaded by the centres exams officer.
Tutors will not have prior access to question papers.
Where possible assessments will be invigilated by independent invigilator.
If the learner does not achieve the required correct number of answers in any section, they will be referred.
Learner assessment paperwork will be retained by the centre and will be moderated by the External Quality Assurer.
There are no knowledge pre-requisites for this qualification. QNUK does recommend however, that learners have a minimum of Level 1 literacy or equivalent.
Learners should be a minimum of 16 years old on commencing the programme. Learners must be physically capable of undertaking the practical elements of the assessment

- Level 2 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (QCF)
- Level 2 Award in Paediatric First Aid (QCF)
- Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (QCF)
